Kasia Howlett

London-based ceramicist specialising in hand-building.

I am interested in the organic nature of clay, the fact that you can change the material direction, alter the original intention, speculate about colour and form. Each work is a unique reflection of the time and atmosphere in which it was built. It’s the slow pace and calming act of the process that motivates me to make.

I make both functional and sculptural objects which have an evident touch of the human hand. Drawn to simple forms, I try to embrace the beauty of irregularity and imperfection. My work is inspired by shapes and textures in the urban and natural world around me.

I am self-taught and started my practice in 2019, working from my studio in East London and occasionally from my hometown of Lodz, Poland.
